Leonard Sherifi Albania 1984, EDUCATION 1998-2002 Artistic College \"Ajet Xhindole\" Berat Albania 2002-2008 Academy of Fine Arts Genoa Italy About work My work has always been inspired by the intellectual need to explore human identity, fear, character, emotional events, courage to unveil certain truths, the power to face life challenges and misfortunes. Through my art, I would like to ‘uncover’ some of the tracks that these events leave in people’s characters. I would like to explore my personal experiences first, and those of the people around me. In fact, in my artistic practices, I strive to ‘hide’ the character’s identity. At first, I treat its image realistically, and, soon after, I attempt to ‘cover it up’ for a long time by using many transparent layers. I then feverishly begin to search for what’s under, by ‘sweeping,’ ‘scraping’ and ‘digging’ further down, just like in an exciting archeological excavation or restoration of an antique work of art. It’s like a return journey through time to reveal an identity, a vicious circle that completes the art’s message. It is the matching image of the life’s circle, the return to the origin, something that has shaped my artistic creativity and processes. It has been fascinating to find out that, despite my efforts to ‘hide’ the image, its identity persists. In fact, it would be impossible to hide it, although it weathers in the course of time. |
